Sermilik Fjord, nestled along the east coast of Greenland, is a breathtaking expanse of natural wonder, characterized by its stunning landscapes and diverse wildlife. This vast fjord system is inhabited by majestic creatures such as whales, walruses, seals, and even polar bears, thriving in this remote territory. Adding to its allure are the small settlements found on Angmagssalik Island and the nearby mainland, where resilient communities blend harmoniously with the rugged environment. Our journey through this enchanting region promises a unique exploration of both the captivating nature that envelops the fjord and the rich cultural tapestry of the people who call it home, allowing for a truly immersive experience.

Daily Schedule

Day 1: Arrival in Kulusuk & Boarding the Aurora

• Depart from Iceland and fly over the ice trails of the North Atlantic.

• Land in Kulusuk.

• Meet the Aurora sailboat, your floating home for the expedition.

• Settle in and sail out into the icy waters, navigating past icebergs under the Arctic sun.

Day 2: Sailing to Tiniteqilaaq & Iceberg Navigation

• Sail through a spectacular strait surrounded by towering granite cliffs and drifting icebergs.

• Arrive near Tiniteqilaaq, a small village with a stunning view over the Sermilik Fjord.

• Explore the village and its Inuit culture, passing by sled dogs tied along the path.

• Fishing session: try catching Arctic char for dinner.

Day 3: Amitsivartivit Fjord

• Sail north along the coast, reaching Amitsivartivit Fjord, where massive icebergs slowly drift.

• Hike on land to a scenic overlook with small turquoise lakes perched on the hills.

• Experience the quiet beauty of the Arctic tundra before returning to the boat.

• As darkness falls, watch aurora borealis dance across the sky from the deck (depending on the dates, of course)

Day 4: Glacial River & Ancient Inuit Ruins

• Continue sailing along the fjord, stopping near Paornakajit, an area rich in Inuit history.

• Hike to ancient Inuit hunting grounds, where stone circles and ruins tell the story of past civilizations.

• Visit a traditional hunter’s cabin decorated with religious imagery.

Day 5: Sailing to Tasiilaq & Arctic Fishing

• Navigate deeper into the fjord, reaching Ikasaulaq, a remote and pristine coastal area.

• Spend the day fishing for Arctic char and cod, while the crew keeps watch for seals.

• Explore the surrounding tundra and ice formations.

Day 6: Crossing the Fjord & Changing Landscapes

• Sail along a white sandy beach where the tide reveals a dramatic shifting landscape.

• Walk on the exposed mudflats, where icebergs have left deep grooves in the ground.

• Witness how the fjord refills with seawater within hours, reshaping the terrain.

Day 7: Journey’s End

• Arrive in Kulusuk, where the journey began.

• Spend your last moments in Greenland enjoying a farewell drink or exploring the village before heading to the airport.

• Flight back to Reykjavik.
